Children at Bruntsfield Community Nursery are lucky their wonderful teachers read them poems regularly.

They love the idea of carrying one of their very own, so set to work writing a poem to carry all about their ‘Mummy.’

Mummy is like….

A sofa to lie on to have a rest,
Soft and bouncy
Bedtime, reading stories and lullabies,
An orange, like the moon, juicy and sweet
Summertime, sunny and warm,
A rabbit, soft and cuddly

And well done to all the mums who took part in the 5k run in january.They managed to raise an online total of £142 plus many cash donations ( I'll post the TOTAL figure when I cr5unch those numbers folks).

Bupa Great Winter Run 2010
A few parents are running in the 5k around Holyrood Park on Sunday 9 January to raise money for the nursery. Please sponsor us by logging ontohttp://bcnfundraisers.blogspot.com/. Alternatively, please hand your donation to any of the runners or into the nursery directly.

Hey Ho Let's Go!!

Sunday morning 5am (thank goodness the clocks went back so I get an extra hour) up and at 'em. Porage on the hob coffee and bananas. Pack a small bag with camera, malt loaf, nuts, fill water bottles and head out into the windy dark streets to meet my fellow madmen. Today we cycle 100 miles and the weather 'aint looking good. I meet up with Jim and Duncan in the Meadows and we head off towards the Forth Road bridge. As the sun comes up we are cycling into Fife with a nice tail wind and the weather seems to be holding off. All's well and I'm really enjoying the national cycle route 1 as we wind our way up quiet single track roads and cycle paths. Yep good old Jim he picked a good 'un.

Everything was going great until mile 60 when my knee started playing up and by the time we got to mile 75 I was in quite a lot of pain. We stopped for a bit of a late lunch at the Foulford Hotel where everything is too much trouble......service with a scowl, good old Scottish hospitality at its best but nothing could dampen our spirits......oh no so we set off once more towards our 100 mile goal.

The last 15 miles into Aberfeldy is a long steady hill climb and every pedal stroke was torturous until you reach the brow of the hill and you can see Aberfeldy down in the valley. A fantastic downhill ride into town followed and we reached our destination for the night!! At last!! But no....it seemed we had only covered 97 miles so Jim (who's never told a lie in his life) made us cycle the last 3 miles round the town centre until the bike computers read 100 miles!! By then I was pretty much welded to the bike and we had to break out the heavy cutting gear to separate man and machine.

Week at the knees

Well it's under a week now and there's no turning back! Huge thanks to all of you who've donated through paypal and also those who gave me cash in the playground. The team now consists of Jim McBride http://www.jimmcbride.co.uk/ Myself and new recriut Duncan Sillars.

After a brisk 30 mile run at the weekend (just missed the rain) we're all feeling great......cough cough!! So roll on 6am sunday............

A right old Knees up

With just over two weeks to go before the 100 mile ride Jim and I decided to put in some big training miles. The run out to North Berwick on sunday with the wind in our back was great until we rounded Berwick Law and straight into an 18 mph head wind all the way back to Edinburgh. Good training though......my knee didn't agree. As we cycled through the picturesque town of Tranent my right knee started to give me a bit of jip which turned into a lot of jip as I approached the tranquility of Polwarth. A couple of days off the bike and some gentle warm up stretchersises seem to have sorted it all out and shown me the importance of a good warm up. One thing did cross my mind though............100 miles is a long way on a bike........!!

Well as the more vigilant among you may have noticed you can now donate online simply by clicking the PayPal button at the side of the page, so get clicking and tell your friends. Jim and I set off for our 100 mile in a day ride on the 25th of October.That gives us just under 3 weeks to train up and collect as many sponsors as we can.

Regular reports will be posted up as well as photos of the ride so you can witness our pain from the comfort of your own home.

The 100 mile ride

To get things up and running with this years fundraising target I decided to start a blog so that everyone can see what's going on at the click of a button.

On the 25th of October my friend Jim and I will be cycling 100 miles in a single day to raise money for Bruntsfield community nursery. We are planning a route from Edinburgh to Aberfeldy which will be exactly 100 miles on the nose. I am currently trying to set up an online payment method for sponsorship through a paypal account or a 'just giving' account....... watch this space.
